Gull Lake Distilling Company Brings Class and Craft to Downtown Battle Creek

Downtown Battle Creek’s newest restaurant blends handcrafted flavor, hometown pride, and a touch of class.

There’s a new name lighting up the downtown Battle Creek dining scene, and it’s one locals will want to get familiar with,Gull Lake Distilling Company

We stopped in on a Thursday evening around 7:30, just after the dinner rush, and found a restaurant that still carried the energy of a busy night but welcomed us with calm, friendly professionalism.

Our server mentioned they’d had a strong dinner service and were thrilled with how things were going so far, a good sign for a new restaurant.

The space blends an industrial edge with modern class. Exposed ceilings, and metal accents give it character, while framed photos from the distilling company and shelves lined with gleaming glassware add a refined touch.

With two full bars, multiple TVs, and large windows overlooking Michigan Avenue, the setting feels lively but relaxed. Those big windows appear to open up in summer, connecting guests directly to the downtown scene.

Our server, Maia, was a delight, friendly, attentive, and clearly proud of where she works.

She offered water immediately, bringing glasses and a chilled carafe, which added a simple but classy touch.

When we ordered the Smoked Gouda Dip, she smiled and said, ā€œThat’s my favorite.ā€ And rightly so.

Served with warm pita bread, the smoky, rich dip was a hit, hearty, flavorful, and memorable.

My wife enjoyed the build-your-own burger, which she described as perfectly cooked and full of flavor.

I ordered the Steak Sammy, featuring eight ounces of shaved ribeye with provolone, grilled onions, and a horseradish-vodka aioli on a toasted hoagie bun.

The aioli and onions paired beautifully. It's the kind of combination that keeps you going back for another bite.

During our visit, the chef stopped by a nearby table of ladies out for a ā€œgirls’ night,ā€ chatting about how everything is made from scratch.

It’s always great to see that kind of pride, and it came through in every dish we tried.

All in all, Gull Lake Distilling Company made an outstanding first impression.

Between the warm service, scratch-made food, and sophisticated yet comfortable vibe, Battle Creek has a new dining destination to be proud of.

We’ll definitely be back, and highly recommend you stop in and see for yourself.
