Megan, our server, stood out for her warm attitude and spot-on recommendations, making us feel right at home.

We started with crisp, topping-loaded Potato Skins, followed by a Build Your Own Burger and the Kansas City Burger — both packed with flavor, especially the caramelized onions and BBQ sauce.

The real star, though, was Megan’s “pro tip”: a side of Beer Cheese for our waffle fries.

It was so addictive, we put it on everything — fries, onion rings, even the burgers.

If you want a great place for game day, ask for Megan and don’t miss the beer cheese.

Trump Scraps Tariffs on Key Imports to Combat Rising Grocery Prices

President Donald Trump has ended tariffs on key imports like beef, coffee, and tropical fruits to counter rising grocery costs for Americans.

Household budgets have tightened since tariffs drove up grocery prices, with the Consumer Price Index showing the sharpest food-at-home price increase in two years this August.

Coffee and beef prices have soared by over 16% year-over-year.

Retailers such as Walmart and Kroger publicly acknowledged that tariffs forced unwelcome price hikes, despite their efforts to shield consumers.

Polls highlight that more than half of U.S. adults now rank grocery costs as their top financial concern, outpacing credit card or child care worries.

The administration’s move is designed to quickly drop prices on diverse products, including bananas, oranges, tea, and cocoa—items rarely produced domestically in large amounts.

With the holidays approaching, both shoppers and retailers are optimistic this change will bring some welcome relief at checkout.

Gobble'd Up: The Impact of Food Inflation on Michigan's Thanksgiving Feast

Michigan families are facing higher costs for Thanksgiving dinner staples, with key ingredients like turkey and beef seeing notable price hikes due to ongoing food inflation.

Avian influenza has driven turkey prices up by 40% compared to last year, making the average 20-pound bird in Flint soar from $18.80 to $45.80.

Beef roast costs have also climbed over 18%, pushed by limited cattle supplies and strong demand, adding strain for meat lovers planning their holiday meals.

On a brighter note, fresh vegetables like potatoes and squash have only seen moderate inflation, but canned options are pricier due to increased tariffs on packaging materials.

Dessert lovers can breathe easy, as pie prices hold steady with less than a 1% rise.

Retailers like Walmart and ALDI are responding with budget meal baskets, while Michigan Farm Bureau reports an average Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people at $58.10.

Smart shopping and planning ahead can help stretch holiday budgets this season.

Why Your Beef, Bananas, and Coffee Beans Have Gotten So Expensive
🔥 Trending

Grocery shoppers across the U.S. are facing sharp price increases on beef, bananas, and coffee beans due to a mix of climate pressures, tariffs, and supply chain headaches.

Ground beef now tops $6 per pound, a record, as cattle herds hit 75-year lows—pushed down by drought and costly feed.

Demand for beef is holding strong, driving prices up even further, while additional tariffs on imports from Brazil and Canada could worsen the spike.

Coffee also isn’t spared. U.S. shoppers now pay up to $9.14 per pound after extreme droughts in Brazil and Vietnam, plus new tariffs, crippled supplies.

Banana prices have climbed to 67 cents a pound, squeezed by trade restrictions and a devastating fungus threatening the world's leading variety.

These rising costs are likely to stick around as challenges mount for both producers and consumers.

Electric Current Fizz: A Modern Twist on a Classic Cocktail

The Electric Current Fizz is a storied cocktail that first gained fame in the late 1800s, celebrated in George Kappeler’s Modern American Drinks.

Originally, it was a bracing Silver Fizz paired with an egg yolk and a dash of vinegar, meant to invigorate and revive.

Today, Melbourne bartender Michael Madrusan has updated the recipe, swapping the vinegar for Worcestershire and Tabasco sauces to add a modern, Bloody Mary-inspired twist.

This vibrant version combines gin, lemon, simple syrup, and egg white for a silky, citrusy base, topped with effervescent soda water.

The real highlight is the “Prairie Oyster” yolk—seasoned and served on the side—which introduces savory depth and unexpected flavor contrast.

Madrusan’s innovative take blends old-world tradition with bold contemporary tastes, making the Electric Current Fizz a truly electrifying choice for adventurous drinkers.

Michigan shoppers are urged to watch for a major egg recall hitting grocery shelves across the state.

Black Sheep Egg Company has recalled its Free Range Large Grade A Brown Eggs, sold in 12-count and 18-count cartons, due to potential Salmonella contamination.

The recall covers eggs with Best By dates from August 22, 2025, through October 31, 2025, and specific UPC codes 860010568507 and 860010568538.

The FDA found multiple Salmonella strains during an inspection at the Arkansas processing plant, prompting heightened safety concerns statewide.

No illnesses have been reported, but Salmonella can cause serious symptoms, especially in young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems.

Residents should discard or return affected cartons for a refund, and thoroughly clean any surfaces the eggs touched.

These swift actions help protect Michigan families from potential health risks.

"Discovering Pennfield Pizza: Battle Creek's Hidden Gem That We Can't Believe We Missed!"

Pennfield Pizza has been a beloved Battle Creek fixture since 1972, and after finally sampling their fare, it’s not hard to see why.

From the moment you step inside, the family-owned warmth is unmistakable — regulars greet staff by name and generations gather to pick up orders.

The shop is best known for take-out and friendly, fast service.

We tried the Tons of Meat and Cheese pizza and the hearty Deluxe with fresh jalapeños, both generously loaded and bursting with flavor, thanks to high-quality ingredients and an airy, cracker-crisp crust.

The menu also features bakery treats like scones, cookies and their must-try Cheesecake Calzones.

After one experience, it’s clear — Pennfield Pizza is far more than a pizza joint. It’s a local tradition, lovingly perfected over five decades.

Chi-Chi’s, the iconic Mexican-American restaurant, is making a comeback in Michigan after more than two decades.

Michael McDermott, son of founder Marno McDermott, has partnered with Hormel Foods to revive the beloved brand and blend nostalgic flavors with modern twists.

The flagship restaurant will open October 6, 2025, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, featuring a refreshed design and a menu that brings back classics like the Original Chimichanga alongside new creations such as Quesabirria Tacos and the Manchego Burger.

Plans include expanding into Michigan and across the Midwest, sparking excitement for a potential local reopening, though no specific Michigan locations or dates have been set yet.

First opened in 1975, Chi-Chi’s once operated over 200 locations, becoming a staple in communities before its closure in 2004.

Creamy Butternut Squash Butter Chicken: A Cozy Fall Delight

As autumn arrives, Creamy Butternut Squash Butter Chicken is the perfect way to add warmth and comfort to your table.

This creative twist on classic butter chicken features tender pieces of marinated chicken, seared for golden flavor, and then simmered with sweet butternut squash, onions, and a medley of bold, aromatic spices.

Creamy coconut milk and a hint of fresh ginger give the sauce its irresistible richness, while cilantro and Indian-inspired seasonings make each bite vibrant and soothing.

Serve it piping hot over rice and enjoy with soft naan.

For easy prep, pre-cut squash can be used, and dairy-free bets can stick to olive oil.

Flavors deepen overnight, so leftovers are even better.

This dish turns a chilly evening into a cozy, memorable meal.

Starbucks Announces Closure of 450 Stores: Impact on Michigan Locations

Starbucks is set to close around 450 underperforming stores throughout North America and will cut 900 corporate jobs as part of a major restructuring effort.

CEO Brian Niccol noted this move targets locations that haven’t met business or customer standards, though a detailed store list has not been made public.

Michigan is among the states affected, with the pickup-only Grand Rapids store scheduled for closure as Starbucks phases out this service model by 2026.

In Detroit, the Midtown location at Woodward and Mack closed due to ongoing safety issues.

Despite these closures, Michigan still has a strong Starbucks footprint, with 283 active locations.

The restructuring aims to shift focus back on traditional café experiences while boosting service quality.

Impacted employees are being offered severance and transfer options as Starbucks adapts to changing market needs.
