Iconic fast-food chain brings its famous tacos, curly fries, and 24-hour service to 2588 Capital Ave SW after 40-year absence

Battle Creek food lovers have something big to celebrate this spring. Jack in the Box is officially returning to Michigan with its first location in over 40 years, and it is opening right here in the Cereal City. The new restaurant at 2588 Capital Ave SW is set to welcome customers in May 2026, marking a major milestone for both the brand and local fast-food fans.
This is not just another fast-food opening. Jack in the Box has not had a presence in Michigan since the 1980s, when its Detroit-area locations closed. Now, thanks to local franchisee Niraj Patel of Twins Hospitality Group, the iconic chain is making its long-awaited comeback. Patel, a West Michigan hotel owner and entrepreneur, signed a five-restaurant development deal that will bring multiple locations to Kent, Kalamazoo, and Calhoun counties over the next five years.
What Makes Jack in the Box Special
If you have never experienced Jack in the Box, you are in for a treat. The chain is famous for several menu items that have developed cult followings across the country. Their crispy tacos are legendary, selling over 554 million annually nationwide. The Sourdough Jack burger with crispy bacon and tangy sourdough bread is a signature item you cannot find at other chains. And let us not forget their seasoned curly fries, widely considered second only to Arby's in the fast-food fry game.
The Battle Creek location will feature the brand's modern "CRAVED" store design with vibrant signage and contemporary aesthetics. Guests can expect dine-in seating, a drive-thru for quick service, and mobile ordering through the Jack in the Box app. Best of all, the restaurant will operate 24 hours a day, making it perfect for late-night cravings, early-morning breakfast runs, or anytime hunger strikes.
Jobs and Economic Impact
The new restaurant is expected to bring approximately 40 to 50 jobs to the Battle Creek community. From crew members to management positions, this opening represents real employment opportunities for local residents. The location near Country Inn & Suites on Capital Avenue has already seen construction activity since August 2025, with visible progress including temporary lane closures during the build-out phase.
Construction is well underway, and while earlier estimates suggested an April 2026 opening, the official company website now lists May 2026 as the target date. No specific day in May has been announced yet, but locals are eagerly watching for the grand opening announcement.
Part of a Bigger Michigan Expansion
The Battle Creek opening is just the beginning. Jack in the Box has announced ambitious expansion plans across Michigan, including a separate five-unit development deal for the Detroit metro area with franchisees Maan Almansour and Andi Kareem. The company has also been expanding into other Midwest markets including Chicago, Louisville, and Salt Lake City.
For Battle Creek residents, being first in the state to welcome Jack in the Box back is a point of pride. It puts our city on the map as the gateway for this major brand's Michigan return and brings another dining option to the Capital Avenue corridor.
