š Pennfield Pizza: A Battle Creek Classic We Wish We’d Tried Sooner |
After 10 years in the neighborhood, we finally discovered what all the buzz is about. |
When we first moved to Pennfield a decade ago, we told ourselves, āWe really need to try Pennfield Pizza someday.ā
Ten years later, we finally did, and now we understand why itās such a beloved local favorite.
Pennfield Pizza has been serving the Battle Creek area since 1972, and the moment you walk in, you can feel the family-owned warmth thatās made it a community staple.
We were greeted by a friendly young lady at the counter who took our order with a smile and told us it would be about 20 minutes. True to small-town hospitality, it was ready in closer to 15 ā piping hot and smelling incredible.
The shop focuses on take-out, and during our visit we noticed something special. multiple generations stopping by, neighbors greeting one another by name, and regulars chatting comfortably with the staff.
You can tell this place is a local tradition.
My wife ordered the 8-inch Tons of Meat and Cheese pizza, and the name didnāt disappoint.
She expected to finish the whole thing but managed just two hearty slices, leaving herself a delicious lunch for the next day.
I went with the Deluxe pizza, hold the green olives and swapping green peppers for jalapeƱos (my personal favorite).
What stood out most was the quality of the ingredients, crisp, fresh-sliced jalapeƱos, not the canned kind, with a perfect bit of heat and flavor.
The pizza was generously topped and absolutely delicious. The crust deserves its own praise, light and cracker-crisp around the edges, yet sturdy enough to hold up beautifully when reheated the next day.
The sauce had a bright, true tomato flavor that complemented the toppings perfectly.
And as if the pizza werenāt enough reason to stop by, Pennfield Pizza also runs a small bakery featuring tempting scones and cookies.
For dessert, we couldnāt resist trying their Cheesecake Calzones. We went with the chocolate version, though the strawberry one looked just as irresistible.
After one visit, itās safe to say Pennfield Pizza isnāt just another pizza place, itās a local treasure thatās been quietly perfecting its craft for over 50 years.
We only wish we hadnāt waited so long to find out. |
