Battle Creek’s Big Boy Is Back... Freshly Remodeled and Off to a Strong Start
After months of rebuilding following a fire, Battle Creek’s Big Boy has reopened with a fresh new look, strong service, and the same comfort-food favorites locals have loved for years.

After being forced to close following a fire a few months ago, Big Boy Restaurant has officially reopened...and after stopping in for dinner this week, we can say it looks like they’re off to a very strong comeback.
The first thing you notice when walking in is just how fresh everything feels.
The entire restaurant has clearly had a major facelift, with what appears to be brand-new booths, tables, chairs, ceiling tiles, and freshly painted walls throughout.
Honestly, if you didn’t know there had been a fire, you would never guess it.
They’ve done an impressive job rebuilding the space while keeping the familiar classic Big Boy feel that longtime customers know and love.

Even on a very hot Tuesday night under area heat warnings, the restaurant was busy, a great sign that Battle Creek is happy to have them back.
While the air conditioning seemed to be working hard against the heat, that’s understandable given the extreme temperatures outside.
One thing regulars will be happy to hear: the weekend breakfast buffet is still alive and well, running Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The salad bar is also still there, although it will now be available on weekends when business is busiest.
To start, we ordered the loaded waffle fries, and they were excellent...crispy, flavorful, and honestly better than the waffle fries at Chick-fil-A, according to my wife.
For dinner, I had the cheesesteak sandwich with fries, my wife ordered the chicken wrap with a side salad, and my daughter went with the loaded mac & cheese and a side salad.
One thing worth mentioning: the side salads were surprisingly generous for “side” salads, loaded with fresh toppings like onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers, making them feel like much more than an afterthought.
There was a small hiccup in the kitchen when my daughter’s loaded mac & cheese came out a couple minutes later than the rest of the meals.
It was a very minor delay, honestly not enough to bother us, but what stood out was how management handled it.
They removed the mac & cheese from our bill without us asking.
That kind of move says a lot.
It shows they’re serious about making a great impression and starting this new chapter on the right foot.
Service was another highlight of the night.
Our server, Isaac, did an excellent job, and what stood out even more was the teamwork.
At least four different staff members helped at our table throughout the meal, and everyone seemed to be working together smoothly and supporting one another.
At the end of the night, the biggest takeaway was simple: this feels like the same Big Boy Battle Creek has always known...but cleaner, fresher, and better prepared for its next chapter.
For an older restaurant that was due for some updating anyway, this remodel may have turned out to be the reset it needed.
Our experience was a very good one, and we’ll definitely be back. If this first impression is any indication, Big Boy looks like it’s on a strong comeback. |
