Biddy Bre to Open for First Jason at The Music Factory in Battle Creek

Battle Creek's music scene is getting a boost this month as local talent takes the stage alongside a horror film legend.

 

Biddy Bre, the performance name of singer-songwriter Breannah Nimens, will open for First Jason on March 20 at The Music Factory. The 24-year-old former Newport resident has been performing since 2023 and is ready to showcase her unique sound to a wider audience.

 

Nimens won't be performing alone. She'll share the opening slot with First Aid Spray and Decyphered, warming up the crowd for Ari Lehman's band, First Jason. Horror fans will recognize Lehman's claim to fame... he was the first actor to portray Jason Voorhees in the iconic "Friday the 13th" film franchise.

 

The show runs from 8 to 11:30 p.m., with tickets available through Eventbrite or at the door.

 

For Nimens, music has been a lifelong passion. "I've always loved music. I was that kid always writing poems and songs in my room and asking if I could perform them for my parents," she recalled. "Somewhere along the lines I had some good connections and some good friends to motivate me to take it to the studio and to do something with it."

 

Her style? Alternative folk pop. It's a blend that sets her apart in the local music landscape, combining acoustic elements with modern pop sensibilities.

 

Balancing music with life isn't easy. Nimens works full-time and is raising her 8-year-old son, so weekends are often reserved for her musical pursuits. But the sacrifice is worth it when opportunities like this come along.

 

Promoter Jeffrey Hill contacted Nimens to join the lineup, a call she was thrilled to receive. "I'm always really happy when anybody hits me up with an opportunity," she said. "I'm always grateful they thought of me."

 

When asked about her musical influences, Nimens points to country singer-songwriter Ella Langley. "Although my music is very different from Ella Langley, I really like her acoustic sound and the folky aspect of it," she explained.

 

Under the moniker Biddy Bre, Nimens has released several EPs and collaborated with other Michigan artists including Macaulay Rock and Dimasofly. Her music is available on iTunes, with videos on YouTube. While she hasn't released a full album yet, that's on her radar. "All of my releases are EP but I definitely plan on doing an album," she said.

 

For the First Jason concert, Nimens is planning something special. She'll perform current songs along with unreleased material, pulling from a catalog of more than 100 songs she's written over the years.

 

One track that's always in the setlist is "Sunshine." "I always perform 'Sunshine' since I released it," she said. "It is one of my only songs that has choreography with it and cut-out props."

 

The March 20 show represents another step forward for Nimens as she builds her presence in the Michigan music scene. Opening for a band with the horror cred of First Jason puts her in front of new audiences who might just become fans.
