Jack in the Box Returns to Michigan: First Location Opening in Battle Creek This May

After 40 years away, the popular fast-food chain is bringing 40-50 new jobs and late-night dining to West Michigan

Battle Creek is about to get a taste of something that has not been available in Michigan for over four decades. Jack in the Box is officially returning to the state, and the very first location will open right here in Cereal City this May.

The new restaurant at 2588 Capital Ave SW will feature dine-in seating, a drive-thru, and mobile ordering options. Best of all for night owls and early risers, it will be open 24 hours a day, giving residents a new option for late-night cravings and early morning breakfast runs.

This is not just about burgers and curly fries. The Battle Creek opening represents the start of a broader expansion across southwest and south-central Michigan. Franchisee Niraj Patel, a West Michigan hotel owner, has signed on to open five Jack in the Box locations across Kent, Kalamazoo, and Calhoun counties over the next several years.

Each restaurant is expected to bring between 40 and 50 new jobs to its community. That means local employment opportunities, from kitchen staff to management positions, right here in our backyard.

For those who remember, Jack in the Box did have a brief presence in Michigan back in the 1970s with a few Detroit-area locations. But by the 1980s, they had all closed, leaving the state without the chain for more than 40 years.

The company announced its return to Michigan over two years ago, and after much anticipation, the first location is finally set to open its doors in May 2026.

Looking ahead, more Jack in the Box locations are expected to follow in the Detroit metropolitan area and beyond as the company continues its statewide rollout. But Battle Creek gets to be first, marking a small but notable milestone for our community.

Whether you are excited about the tacos, the breakfast served all day, or just having another late-night dining option, the return of Jack in the Box adds something new to the local landscape. And for those looking for work, keep an eye out for hiring announcements as the opening date approaches.
