Massive Egg Recall Hits Major Grocery Stores in Michigan |
Consumers Urged to Discard Potentially Contaminated Eggs Amid Salmonella Concerns |
Michigan residents are being alerted to a significant egg recall affecting major grocery stores across the state.
Black Sheep Egg Company, based in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, has issued a recall for its 12-count and 18-count cartons of Free Range Large Grade A Brown Eggs due to potential Salmonella contamination.
The recall encompasses eggs with Best By dates ranging from August 22, 2025, to October 31, 2025, and includes UPC codes 860010568507 and 860010568538.
These products have been distributed to various retailers in Michigan, raising concerns about consumer safety.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted an inspection at the company's processing facility, uncovering 40 environmental samples positive for Salmonella, including seven strains known to cause human illness.
Although no illnesses have been reported to date, the FDA emphasizes the serious health risks associated with consuming contaminated eggs.
Symptoms of Salmonella infection typically manifest within 12 to 72 hours after ingestion and can include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.
Vulnerable populations, such as children under five, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems, are at a higher risk of severe complications.
Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators for the specified egg cartons and either discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Additionally, it's crucial to thoroughly clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the recalled eggs to prevent cross-contamination.
For further information or concerns, individuals can contact the FDA's consumer hotline or visit their official website for updates on the recall.
Staying informed and adhering to these guidelines is essential to ensure the health and safety of Michigan residents. |
