Nina’s Taqueria: Battle Creek’s Surprising Mexican Gem With Rave Reviews on Taste and Service

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. ... If you’re looking for Mexican food in Battle Creek, Nina’s Taqueria deserves a spot on your list.

After taking a break from restaurant reviews earlier this year, we’re finally getting back to one of my favorite things to do, visiting local restaurants, trying the food and sharing the experience with our readers.

For our first restaurant review back, we visited Nina’s Taqueria at 248 Capitol Ave. SW in Battle Creek, Michigan.

We’ve eaten at Nina’s before, but it had been quite a while.

The restaurant had been closed for remodeling, and this was our first visit since the work was completed.

I’m happy to say, Nina’s didn’t disappoint.

From the moment we sat down, our server, Jocelyn, was friendly, welcoming and attentive. She checked back with us regularly throughout the meal to make sure we had everything we needed.

The service was excellent from beginning to end.

Queso Flameado Was a Great Way to Start

We began our meal with the Queso Flameado, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of the visit. 

It arrived hot and bubbling in a skillet, loaded with melted queso cheese and fresh chorizo.

Tortillas were served alongside it, giving us the perfect way to scoop up the cheese and chorizo.

Pull apart a piece of tortilla, grab some of that hot melted cheese and chorizo, and you have an absolutely delicious appetizer.

It was rich, cheesy, flavorful and definitely something I would order again.If you’re visiting Nina’s Taqueria with a few people, the Queso Flameado is a great Mexican appetizer to share.

Chicken Chimichanga, Quesadilla and Carnitas Burrito Especial

Everyone at our table found something they enjoyed.

My wife ordered one of her favorites, the chicken chimichanga.

My daughter went with a quesadilla covered with queso cheese, along with rice on the side.

And I ordered my longtime favorite, the Burrito Especial made with asada.

The adada was tender and packed with flavor, and the entire burrito came together exactly the way I hoped it would.

It was one of those meals where you know very quickly that you made the right choice.

When you combine that kind of attentive service with food that delivered from the appetizer through the entrées, Nina’s made a very strong impression on our first visit back after the remodel.

One of My Top Mexican Restaurants in Battle Creek

Battle Creek has several good places to enjoy Mexican food, and everyone is going to have their own favorites.

For me, Nina’s Taqueria is firmly in my top three Mexican restaurants in Battle Creek.
